The ContinU Plus Academy Trust is planning to open a Free School for children aged between 11 to 16 who, for various reasons, do not attend mainstream schools. These reasons might include, but are not limited to behaviour issues, exclusions or particular needs around reengagement and motivation.  Placements are full or part time and for long or short periods depending on the age and needs of the child.  The school, known as the ContinU Plus Academy has been conceived by the ContinU Trust, an educational charity comprising the seven 11-18 High schools of the Wyre Forest and Hagley, Kidderminster College and Trustees from Barnardo’s and the universities of Birmingham and Wolverhampton.  As such it has extensive experience and capacity in delivering effective, quality services to vulnerable young people. The ContinU Trust has through its mission a commitment through collective responsibility, to provide a rich, varied and high quality learning experience for all young people in all its institutions.

The ContinU Plus Academy has been conceived by the ContinU Trust a local educational charity comprising the seven 11-18 High schools of the Wyre Forest and Hagley, Kidderminster College and Trustees from Barnardo’s and the Universities of Birmingham and Wolverhampton. The partnership has provided alternative education since 2003, with a strong track record of success in enabling pupils who face barriers to achieve their potential working collaboratively with partner schools and Kidderminster College. It has also delivered the early intervention family support service to Wyre Forest and Hagley Primary schools since 2008.

The ContinU Trust has established the ContinU Plus Academy Trust as a legal entity which has applied to open an Alternative Provision Free School, known as the ContinU Plus Academy.

It is the ContinU Plus Academy’s belief that young people should be offered access to high quality provision and teaching. Securing relevant and transferrable skills, knowledge, qualifications and positive experiences will increase life chances and promote productive post 16 destinations for young people outside the mainstream school system. Becoming a Free School will provide a focus point for uniting the collective support of all our secondary schools and Kidderminster College in meeting the needs of this group of young people in the Wyre Forest and Hagley. In addition, Alternative Provision Free School status  will formalise the approach and programmes delivered to date, utilising best practice and innovation to increase retention, achievement, successful destinations and so reduce exclusions and those pupils becoming NEET post 16 (not in education, employment or training).

consultation, including the online questionnaire, is now closed.
