Year 10 pupils explore the Construction Summit at University College Birmingham

Last week, Year 10 pupils from CPA swapped their classrooms for the lecture halls and exhibition spaces of University College Birmingham (UCB). The students attended the annual Construction Summit and Careers Fair, gaining valuable insights into one of the UK’s most dynamic industries.

Inspiring Keynote Speakers
The day began with an engaging presentation from an industry leader. Pupils listened intently to the guest speaker, who highlighted the massive variety of career paths within modern construction. From sustainable engineering to digital architecture, the talk challenged old stereotypes about the industry. The Year 10 cohort showed great maturity, focusing closely on how technology is changing the way we build.

Hands-On Careers Fair
Following the presentations, students explored the bustling careers fair. They met with employers, apprenticeship providers, and university lecturers to discuss their next steps after completing their GCSEs. Pupils asked insightful questions about entry requirements, daily work life, and earning potential in fields like civil engineering, project management, and traditional trades.

Looking to the Future
The visit provided a perfect bridge between school and the professional world. By
witnessing the reality of higher education and industry collaboration, our Year 10s left UCB
feeling inspired and motivated to plan their future careers.
